Role: Art Direction and Design

Work done for BatesMeron Sweet Design Agency

Each year Pacific Plug & Liner, a well known supplier of unique and exciting perennials, participates in the California Spring Trials (CAST). They have become known for hosting the most interesting booths at the event and this year was no exception. With a prompt of National Parks, we were tapped to create a concept for digital, print and event collateral.

Retro Roadtrip

National Parks evoke visions of magnificent landscapes, khaki’s and green, soaring birds and woodsy elements. Instead of leaning into the known, I drew inspiration from retro signage, collage and bold color blocking forms. I focused on neon colors paired with line art illustrations and cutout photography of Pacific Plug & Liner’s floral offerings.

Thrilled with the non-traditional approach, Pacific Plug & Liner gave the approval to move forward with creating invitations for their print and digital channels.

25 years of pacific plug & liner

In addition to the concept creation and pull through, I was tasked with creating a custom seal celebrating 25 years of Pacific Plug & Liner. This seal would be added to all CAST 2024 materials as well as PP&L’s own general marketing collateral for the year.

Digital Assets

A landing page, email series and social posts were the primary way Pacific Plug & Liner announced CAST to their audience. Each asset utilized color blocking with collage elements for a cohesive look across announcements.

Retro Travel Posters

In addition to the concept imagery, I was asked to create travel posters for each category of perennials Pacific Plug & Liner would be showcasing at CAST. A total of 8 unique posters were created drawing inspiration from travel posters from the 50’s & 60’s.

Passport to CAST

Pacific Plug & Liner needed a catalog to hand out to potential vendors at the event. This catalog was the perfect opportunity to keep pushing the national park theme by turning it into a guidebook and passport, similar to the official National Parks Passport. This guidebook came complete with a field guide, spaces to collect trail stamps and a trail map. The stamps were such a hit they were turned into physical badges which were given away as swag at the event.

Welcome to the Trails

A rousing success, CAST 2024 lead to many new vendor leads and orders. The National Parks theme further upheld Pacific Plug & Liner’s reputation as the most unique and unexpected vendor at the show. Check out the video below to see the exhibit in action.

Make sure to keep to the trails and stay hydrated as you take in the colorful sights.
